It is with a responsible and proactive approach that we share the recent laboratory findings on Orajel Kids Anti-Cavity Fluoride Toothpaste in the “Fruity Bubble” flavor. Our independent testing revealed the presence of concerning levels of both Lead and Mercury, substances known to pose significant health risks to children. While this news may be disappointing, transparency and safety remain our top priorities.

This incident underscores a critical point: even products from reputable brands can contain harmful contaminants. Therefore, relying solely on brand reputation is insufficient. The only reliable method to ensure your child’s safety is through independent, third-party laboratory testing.

  • Federal agencies agree: No safe level of Lead exposure exists for children.
  • Similarly, Mercury: No safe level of Mercury exposure has been established for children.

Understanding the Lead Levels and Regulatory Standards

It’s important to note that the Lead concentration we detected in this toothpaste is not illegal under current regulations. The FDA permits up to 10,000 parts per billion (ppb) in fluoride-free toothpaste and up to 20,000 ppb in fluoride-containing toothpaste for both adults and children. However, the absence of illegality does not equate to safety, especially for products intended for children.

Our advocacy supports lowering the permissible Lead level in children’s toothpaste to a maximum of 5 ppb. Reporting this product helps to pressure regulatory agencies to tighten safety standards. We encourage testing children before and after discontinuing the use of contaminated products to observe potential reductions in Lead levels, providing valuable data to influence policy change.
