We have recently tested the popular Hello-Brand Dragon Dazzle “flavor” Fluoride Toothpaste for children and discovered alarming levels of both Lead and Mercury. The concentrations are comparable to those found in their fluoride-free variant from the same brand, as detailed in the comparison graphic below.

  • There is no safe level of Lead exposure for children, as all relevant federal health authorities agree on this point.
  • Similarly, Mercury exposure poses significant health risks, and no safe threshold exists for children.
  • If you are using this toothpaste for your child, we strongly recommend switching to safer alternatives. Our curated lists of safer dental products are linked below for your convenience.
  • For children who have been using this product, please consider immediate testing for Lead exposure. Additional information and testing resources are provided in the links below.
  • You may also report this product to the FDA through the online form provided, should you choose to do so.

It’s important to understand that although the Lead levels found in this toothpaste are not currently illegal—since federal regulations permit up to 10,000 ppb in fluoride-free toothpaste and up to 20,000 ppb in fluoride-containing toothpaste—these levels are far from safe for children. Our advocacy efforts aim to urge the FDA to lower permissible Lead levels in children’s oral care products. We believe the acceptable limit should be no higher than 5 ppb to ensure maximum safety.

If your child has used this product, consider testing their blood Lead levels immediately, and again after a month of discontinuing use. Monitoring changes over time can provide valuable data to support regulatory change and protect children’s health.
