Is THC or CBD Better for Cannabis Topicals?

Dear Cheri,

What is better for making cannabis topicals, THC or CBD?  I have been thinking of enrolling in your online topical course, and I wondered if you had any thoughts on THC or CBD for topicals.  Thank you.

Good question.  The short answer is, BOTH!

Both THC and CBD have medicinal properties when used topically.  Both have anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic, and analgesic properties.  And both can provide localized relief by binding to the cannabinoid receptors in the skin.

I am a big believer in full-spectrum, whole-plant medicine, so I use both in my topicals.  I also use raw and decarbed cannabis in my topicals too, but that’s a different topic.

If I had to choose one or the other, I would slightly favor THC for pain relief and slightly favor CBD for cramping and spasms, and inflammation.  But I prefer to use both because cannabinoids work better together than separately, something scientists call “the entourage effect.”
