Embarking on an Extreme Weekend: From Scenic Tours to Endurance Trials

While many prefer weekends filled with bottomless mimosas, brunches, and relaxing Netflix marathons, some of us crave the thrill of pushing physical limits. The Bighorn 100 isn’t just a race; it’s an intense challenge designed to test your endurance amidst Wyoming’s rugged and breathtaking landscapes. The scenery? Absolutely stunning. The terrain? A masterclass in suffering. And the chafing? Well, let’s just say it’s part of the experience. If you’ve ever wondered what it feels like to be dehydrated while climbing relentless hills under a blazing sun, then this race might just become your new obsession.

Most runners heading to the Bighorn 100 opt for flights into Montana, but our adventure took a different route. We flew into Rapid City, South Dakota, three days before race day. The advantages? Cheaper flights, more affordable car rentals, and a scenic drive past iconic sights like Mount Rushmore, the Crazy Horse Memorial, and Devils Tower National Monument. With one day dedicated to sightseeing, another to race check-in, and the final day reserved for running, we crafted a well-balanced plan leading up to the big event.
