I made some gummies that came out too runny. Can I remelt cannabis gummies to fix the recipe error and add more gelatin? If so is there anything special I need to know about doing this?
The short answer is yes!
There are two sides to cannabis gummies. On the one hand, they can be extremely tricky to get right. So tricky in fact, that I created an entire online course about creating perfect cannabis gummies — check out The Ultimate Guide to Cannabis Gummies. But on the other hand, gummies are also fairly forgiving. Meaning that is you make a mistake, you can usually remelt the gummies into a syrup and correct it.

When I make gummies, I use a Mason Jar. This is the same method demonstrated in this post to make infusions, except I use it to melt my gummy ingredients into a syrup.
The most common mistakes most people make are too little gelatin and incorrect dosing. Both can be corrected by remelting.
In the case of this question, they needed to correct too little gelatin. Do not just add gelatin powder to the melted mixture. Be sure to bloom the gelatin first then add to the remelted gummy syrup. How to bloom gelatin is covered in my gummy course, or there are instructions easily found on the internet.
In the case of incorrect gummy dosage you have two options:
- Add more cannabis. If you need to up the dosage, I would recommend adding a concentrate like kief, hash, hash oil, RSO, or an isolate. Find more information on increasing dosages here.
- Add more unmedicated gummy syrup. If you need to decrease the dose, make another bath (or half bath) of unmedicated gummies and us this to dilute the mixture that was too strong.
No matter the reason, yes, you can remelt cannabis gummies, and in most cases, you will be able to fix the problem. Excellent question, thanks for asking!
