Hey Girl!
When you hit weight loss goals or milestones, are you my shopaholic friend who attempts to switch your entire wardrobe? It seems it would make sense when you drop 2 to 6 sizes (you read those digits right). After all, who doesn’t love a celebratory weight loss inspired shopping spree? Overall, throughout my journey, I’m currently down from a size 20, post baby and the size of my wedding dress, to at my smallest of a size 6 in workout pants and an 8 in work pants.
Believe me, I acknowledge and applaud my overall accomplishments to chip away at fat loss one size at a time. It feels absolutely euphoric to be at a phase where I have both shed off several inches of body fat from my frame and made progress by hitting lifting milestones. It’s definitely a reason to celebrate!
The reality no one ever told me about was that I’d be here at a single digit dress size and still struggling with how I imagine I look versus what I see in the mirror. I had no idea that I would come face to face with these two conflicting views. Let me explain.
Over the past few years, I would set weight loss goals or targets, hit those targets, and still feel like a failure.
Numbers on the scale can be deceiving. Over the past few years, I’ve been in a size 10 regardless of being 195 or 175.
Dressing room mirrors have failed me. At times, I still see that size 18-20 woman in the mirror. #ibelieveintherapy

It’s Never Just About Weight Loss
There’s a mental aspect or perception that occasionally creeps in and causes me to see myself at a larger size. I still order or walk into a dressing room with a size that is sometimes 2 to 3 sizes bigger than my current size. Realizing this, I had to ask myself why I was doing this, and I had to break that mindset. So… How have I been able to break the negative mindset?
Let me begin by saying that I am by no means a therapist. However, I do believe in taking steps to build and reinforce a healthy and positive mindset. My go-to rituals involve reading things that fuels positivity. I am also constantly doing self love work which helps in aligning my thoughts with my progress. What’s continuing to help close the mental gap? Keep in mind the work needed is constant!
Giving Up Heels for My Favorite Sneakers
Every major accomplishment towards my fitness journey, I reward myself with workout clothes or shoes. As I look back, I also rewarded myself with additional carbs/calories, derailing myself and
destroying my mental awareness of my additional intake. I have slowly learned that it’s better to reward, not with food, but instead an item of fitness clothing or my preferred workout shoe. For example, my shoe of choice is On Cloud’s Cloud Stratus. Once you buy one pair, you’re hooked!
This is by far my favorite shoe to do everything in. They are great for running but they are great for much more! Here are a few reasons why I love these shoes so much:
They were comfortable while walking over 20k steps per day.
They kept my feet super warm in 30-40 degree temperatures.
Throughout that same trip I attempted to wear 2 other types/brands of shoes that made my feet feel as if they were frostbitten despite wearing a pair of warm socks and leggings.
Holding my feet to the fire…
Let’s be real, without accountability, I could set myself up for failure. Therefore one of my monthly expenses is to work with an online experienced trainer. Together we strategically plan when I am in a building or cutting phase. I won’t bore you with the terminology here, I will save that for a later post. At a high level, either phase has changed my size and body composition in a visually positive way.
If you are interested in a reasonable way to get your feet wet by learning how to setup your own balanced nutrition structure that incorporates carbs daily, I’d love to get you started!
